Kingston Rotary’s Philippine Project (Aired on May 2, 2021)
Kingston Rotary’s secretary Alicia Marcinkowski and president-elect Richard Cattabiani visit RadioRotary to tell about the club’s water project in the Philippines and also their annual Cap-to-Cap Run. Kingston Rotarian Rachel Jackson has connections in the Philippine Island and helped the New-York based Rotary club set up a necessary water project in conjunction with the Mandaluyong Rotary Club of Manila. The Kingston and Mandaluyong Clubs are working together toward bringing clean water to a struggling, indigenous tribe in Manilla, the Dumagats. The plan is to use solar-powered devices to operate a pipeline bring water to the Dumagat community and to provide training to Dumagats on how to maintain the equipment. Kingston Rotary, formed by the merger of the Kingston Sunrise and the lunch club, is known for its October event, the Cap-to-Cap 5-k run, which goes from the former Capitol of New York State (during the Revolution) to the temporary capitol used after the Tory forces burned Kingston on October 17, 1777.
