Ep 45 | Core Values Come First & Leadership Wisdom with John Turner
“For me, it’s not the challenge of leading a team. It’s the challenge of leading 13 individuals.”
That’s the line that got my attention and why I’m sharing this interview with you today.
John Turner was a Sales Manager in the insurance industry for forty years. Now semi-retired, he is the productivity coach for Team Sweasey in San Luis Obispo. John leads from the heart and from a set of core values that permeate everything that Team Sweasey does.
When John joined Team Sweasey, he was tasked with improving the climate and culture. It wasn’t always easy, and some tough decisions had to be made, but today, Team Sweasey is a shining example of what’s possible when your core values are at the center of everything you do.
In this interview, John and I talk about positional vs. inspirational leadership (hint - you don’t have positional leadership with sales agents, so you’d better figure out how to be inspirational!) We also talk about what it really takes to lead individuals and the traits and skills all great sales managers must possess.
I really enjoyed this interview, and I think you will too. Let’s dive in!
Quick note: the book John mentions around minute 4 is Traction by Gino Wickman.
