Roos ontmoet de jonge molenaar Pedro Germes. De molen is vernoemd naar een strijder in de 80 jarige oorlog: De heer van Vianen, ofwel: de Grote Geus. Tegenwoordig strijdt de molenaar tegen de oprukkende bebouwing. Dat die strijd van alle tijden is vertelt Diederik Aten, historicus van het Hoogheemraadschap Noorderkwartier. "Al in 1589 komt de polder hier met een verordening dat het in een strook van 150 meter verboden is om hoge bomen of bebouwing neer te zetten."
