Teaching Humanity Remotely with Dr. Mindy Shaw
Kids & Family:Education for Kids
In this episode, Dr. Shaw continues to review the Q&A section of her recent parenting book called I LIKE HOW YOU SPEAK TO ME... A PARENT'S GUIDE TO EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITH CHILDREN. However, before she gets to the section of the book being recapped on this podcast episode, Dr. Shaw openly reflects on the notion of championing. To champion someone is a wonderful means of emotional support, and we often don't take the time to champion our children. Think about how you feel when someone champions you, and you will realize how important it can be for a child. Regarding her parenting guide, as of this podcast episode, Dr. Shaw is spending time discussing the above-referenced closing section of the book which features the ten most frequently asked questions that Dr. Shaw hears from parents and podcast listeners. This week, she dives into fifth of those questions which is also perhaps the most common question, "What do I do with my children who always want to talk when I am uncomfortable talking because I don’t know what to say?" Dr. Shaw shares that she loves the honesty of this question, and her answer include a range of parenting tips, from recommending that we recognize that some of us are more extroverted than others to suggestion ways to get professional help from a counsellor and how to even introduce that concept to a child. Again, it's great material, so enjoy!
