Edgar ist als Enkel von König Edmund Ironside der rechtmäßige Thronfolger im Jahr 1066. Der letzte Prinz aus dem Haus Wessex kann seinen Anspruch nicht durchsetzen. Es ist Edgars Schwester Margaret die dafür sorgt, dass die englischen Könige und Königinnen bis zum heutigen Tag direkte Nachkommen des legendären Angelsachsen Alfred des Großen sind.
