When the Stonington-based lobster boat Heidi Marie went missing in November 1989, Day reporter Joe Wojtas, who covers the town's fishing fleet to this day, flew with the U.S. Coast Guard on a search and rescue mission. Wojtas sat down with us recently to tell the story of the search and describe a memorable interview he conducted ten years later with the mother of one of the five fishermen lost at sea.
Sea musicians Rick Spencer and Dawn Indermuehle joined us in the studio to perform Heidi Marie, a haunting song about the missing boat and the danger faced by those "who make their living harvesting the sea."
