Zambia is known for her friendly and hospitable people. Which is ironic because as much as we are welcoming of foreigners we are not always as nice to each other. Over the last few years tribalism has reared its sinister head up more prominently within the country. This has resulted in violent altercations and unnecessary loss of life. Even in the day to day lives there are people who do not have the same access to resources, jobs and opportunities all because of the tribe they are part of. With the newly appointed 7th President elect, H.E. Hakainde Hichilema, Zambia finds itself at a crossroads. Will the fraction in the nation grow deeper or will we truly embrace our nation’s motto One Zambia, One Nation for every single person. That is yet to be seen.
This conversation with Moono Chungu, the author of Routes, really unwraps what tribalism looks like in Zambia and where it could head if not nipped in the bud. We also speak about the vision we have for a united Zambia.

Quotes:
“We take for granted that just because we are in the same country, that we are having the same experiences”
“Out of that beauty, we are ugly because of our tribalism.”
