In Exodus 7–11, we learned that the LORD could have wiped Egypt off the face of the earth with one word. He could have destroyed them all. He didn’t need ten plagues. He could have snapped his fingers. One plague could have done it. But in his mercy and kindness, he gave warning after warning, strike after strike, pain after pain, chance after chance. He crushed the pagan gods of Egypt one by one. Yahweh is exactly who he said he is. Like Moses, like Pharaoh, like the people of Israel and the people of Egypt, our greatest need is to KNOW that the LORD is God.
When we really see God’s sweet, stunning, shocking sovereignty, the way the LORD has made himself known in the plagues, we will know that he is God and we are not, and in that we will find freedom and joy. His intention is not just to be known grudgingly, but known as awesome and amazing … that we would bow down in joy-filled worship, knowing that this great God is for us, not against us. My prayer is that you see and know this God of sovereign splendor!
