2021 Cigar of the Year Countdown (Coop‘s List): #28 - Abuelo Padre by United Cigar - Audio

Coming in at #28 is the Abuelo Padre. In 2021, United Cigars would resurrect a brand called Abuelo. The Abuelo line was released over 20 years ago. At the time, United Cigar's owner David Garofalo’s brother-in-law John was going to become a grandfather. Shortly after the brand’s release, John passed away and the brand essentially became dormant. Fast forward to 2021, and now David Garofalo has become a grandfather himself and decided to resurrect the brand. To produce the 2021 version of the brand, Garofalo sought out Julio R. Eiroa, the owner of JRE Tobacco Company, to produce the blend. Eiroa had also produced the original version of the Abuelo.

Abuelo uses 100 percent Honduran-grown tobaccos from the JRE Tobacco farm. This includes a Honduran Habano wrapper and Authentic Corojo for the binder and filler. The Padre is a classic Toro size measuring 6 x 52.

Produced at the Eiroa's Fabrica de Puros Aladino S.A in Las Lomas, Abuelo Padre delivers flavors of natural tobacco, bread, cedar, citrus, baker's spice, and pepper. This isn't an overpowering cigar. It's a cigar that starts out mild to medium in strength before progressing to medium in the second third. The flavors delivered are medium-bodied.

The Abuelo Padre gives United Cigar its first entry on a Cigar Coop Countdown. It's also the sixth consecutive entry that the Las Lomas factory has landed on the Coop Countdown.
