While goodness can be manifest in many different ways, it is a virtue that is best seen as a lifestyle cultivated by doing deeds that benefit others. Whether small or enormous, goodness is always aware of what the situation requires and understands that its greatest purpose is to be available. One such example of goodness is John Coffey, one of the primary characters from Stephen King’s 1996 serial novel The Green Mile. Though much of his life is a mystery, we come to see how goodness defines everything he does throughout the story, and how his example changes those around him forever.
