As a frequent lead presenter, Carter speaks on creating Foundation Moments to support the early bond between father and child. His lectures cover multiple topics related to fatherhood including ‘Intentional Fathering’, ‘Trauma-Informed Practice for Fathers and Families’, ‘Increasing Employment Opportunities for Men’, and ‘Effective Co-Parenting’. Carter has presented on both the local and national scene receiving invitations from top educational institutions such as Princeton University and The College of New Jersey as well as nationally-recognized fatherhood conferences like the Fathers and Families Coalition Conference of Greater Los Angeles, and The American Public Human Services Association Conference of Baltimore, Maryland. He has received numerous awards from the State of New Jersey and City of Trenton for his work around non-profit economic development.
In this episode, Carter , also known as Musai to some of his friends, shares his vulnerability, awareness and mindfulness in stories from as early as 9 years old, through his teens and in his 40's . Powerful stories that were instrumental to help him in his profound transformation as a person. As he speaks about the pain that he felt during his first baseball game at the fragile age of nine, he had tears in his eyes. He saw parents of his friends at the game and there was no one for him, although his mother bought his first baseball glove but was unable to be present in that moment. Feeling the deep pain, he made his active choice not to repeat the trauma pattern of his mother who is white and grew up without a father. Musai was on the same situation being raised without a father, who is black. "No child has to go through this." was his conviction. Since his whole life has always been in social services, let this conversation inspire you in whatever you are going through as an individual or as a caregiver.
