”Building Balanced Believers: A Balanced View of God” by Melvin Otey

The topic for the Gospel Meeting is "Building Balanced Believers". For this year's Gospel Meeting we have the special guest speaker, Melvin L. Otey. Melvin has served as an Associate Professor of Law at Faulkner University, Jones School of Law, since August 2014. He writes for Christian publications; conducts Gospel meetings, lectures, and seminars; and serves as a board member of Lads 2 Leaders. He and his wife, Jania, have two sons, Caleb and Christian. They worship with the Perry Hill Road congregation in Montgomery, AL.  

"A Balanced View of God" 

Looking at Romans 11, Melvin looks at how people perceive God. Some think of him as sort of Santa Claus, kindly giving to everyone. But many forget the events of the Old Testament, such as Korah, Nadab, Abihu and Uzzah where the seriousness of the Lord is shown. God is both loving and just. He wants us to learn what is right and we cannot do that by not having responsibility for our actions.
