In this episode, I chat with Carryn about the future of work and how this may impact corporate companies.
There is no denying that the world - and the workplace - has shifted significantly since the start of the pandemic and has left lasting impressions. A new South African report has tracked the new trends around ‘The Great Disruption’ which includes the following:
- The #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter social movements have spilled over into the workplace. Many employees are no longer willing to work endlessly towards a purpose that doesn't resonate with them.
- Mental wellness is top of mind with companies responding with digital detoxes, 4 day work weeks and mental health days
- Only 10% of employees say they don't have the proper internet connection to work remotely effectively. 42% say they lack the office essentials required.
- The average time spent in work meetings is 10 minutes longer with virtual meetings than with face to face meetings.
- It is estimated that 50 million people consider themselves to be content creators. More kids want to be YouTube stars than Astronauts.
- Employees are rethinking when, where and why they work leading to mass shifts in skills, jobs and locations.
