America's newest federal holiday, Juneteenth, gained national attention in 2016 when Texas native, Opal Lee, launched the, "Opal's Walk to D.C." to gain signatures to create the nation holiday. Opal Lee was recently nominated to receive the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.
On June 17, 2021, President Biden signed the Juneteenth Independence Day Act.
