#8 - Lose the fear, Gain all the Confidence

Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “the only thing to fear is fear itself” and this statement couldn’t be more accurate. I’d sure be scared shitless of something that can negatively impact my entire being. If you think about it, fear is the catalyst for 99.9% of our stagnant moments in our personal lives and in business.

Don’t believe me? Let’s take a moment to ponder how fear presents itself: Have you ever felt anxious about a first date? Have you ever practiced what you’re going to say a million times in the mirror before a big meeting? Have you ever pushed back the launch of your business?

Sure, you can justify all of these scenarios by simply saying you just want to be prepared, but why is there this never-ending urge for preparedness? Could it be you are afraid of how others will perceive you, your business or whatever it is you’re passionate about? Hmmm…what’s a synonym for afraid? You got it! Look who’s smarter than a 5th grader, you brainiac, you!

 

Ok, so now that we got that out of the way, I guess you’re wondering how to get rid of, or at least suppress, our fears so we can show up in our business. In this week’s episode, we’ll discuss how building confidence can help in that area. Here’s an overview:

• There are 3 types of fear in business: fear of failure, fear of rejection and fear of success. We’ll define each type of fear and discuss ways to tackle them.
• Confidence comes from within, not the validation of others. Validate yourself.
• A part of building confidence is learning to use your voice in everything you do. Keep the reposts to a minimum and let your target audience hear YOU.
• One or two convoluted metaphors, but you love it! Why else would you still be here? (You'll have to listen to the episode to hear them!)
