In this episode, I have the absolute pleasure to speak with world champion surfing legend, motivational speaker, environmentalist, and author Shaun Tomson about his inspirational guidebook “The Surfer and the Sage: A Guide to Survive and Ride Life’s Waves” co-written by poet-philosopher Noah BenShea in which surfing is used as a metaphor for life.
Shaun talks about his fascinating Code Method which consists of 12 personal life-affirming commitments and promises that provide a contract and engagement with one’s deepest held values and that can not only inspire and motivate us to be the best version of ourselves but also help others to be better. The Code can be applied to any aspect of our personal and professional life, but it can also connect us with others in meaningful ways and manners and help us find common ground, and bridge our differences with others.
The code is free and open source, and it will hopefully inspire everyone to write their own personal list of goals and values and to intentionally use the healing and transformational power of hope to create a state of spiritual flow and connectivity with ourselves and others.
Shaun has suffered tragic and devastating loss and grief in his personal life, but he is a vivid and inspiring role model for all of us to keep pushing forward against the waves, to persevere, catch our breath and ride the waves on the ebbs and flows of life over and over again and be stoked and driven by our internal passion and fire while eventually becoming a master of ourselves and the situations.
