interesting guest one of the hottest names in the industry this gentleman seemingly popped out of nowhere just all of a sudden I see his name pop up every event they look at he's part of the events now he's so good at marketing that he did a good job marketing himself or to get on this podcast so he did a great job with that and his name is mandeep Bala and he's with the company called row nearby mandeep say hi to the to our listeners I everyone and first of all thank you Joe for inviting me to your podcast and it's my pleasure to be here thank you so much well it's definitely I know we've met in Las Vegas and we had a great discussion with one of your teammates and me and we had been meeting together and I said I gotta get to know this gentleman and I definitely was pleasant conversation yet all night and I didn't know if I was just going to go to a conference I didn't know I was going to be friend that day what would I did thank you thank you thank you Joe like you look it was nice meeting you in person finally like big fat of you and finally I saw you there in Vegas and it was it was such a like you know amazing game spent like many hours like at that night and we discussed about product things about how to provide more value to the contractors like definitely I'm grateful for this region mandeep let's start by the obvious thing which is I'm sure a lot of people have a question on their mind no it's as I as I recall you telling me you're from India which is not exactly contractor prototype in the United states this industry is not as diverse as it could be the car trades and I II welcome the back of the office diversity here we ourselves have shreya who's our person and customer service and our social specialist as an Indian descent as well too I believe it diversity but tell me tell me about the journey it took to get from where you started to get to the state of Florida and then top of that we've got yeah absolutely thanks for asking that so yeah I I grew up in and my dad he was if he prayed he was a he was an aluminium fabricator like you know aluminum doors and windows and as a kid I I used to go out with metal sheet metal sheet fabricator you could say so I used to go out was there like you know I have computers so many projects like you know I know we talked about we have heard about like you know had good rich like story about that flashlight right and I and I compare that like yeah I have done this thing like you know I used to go out help him like you know with the project and I think I think it's just like DNA answered my after graduating like you know I did my graduation is like you know converse and then I did my master of computer application and then I started my career in it like information technology I was like developer and get into clear but spent like 9 to 10 years I think it's to have like you know entrepreneurship to create businesses and I started my wanted writing agency there while I was actually in it and these so approximately 120 clients in India and I have my clients from the US from Australia from easyland like all over and one day I got connected with you know one of one of the companies here in the US and I was providing content to them like seo content website content and we got connected pretty well and then my wife she actually got a job officiating here in the US in popular and we decided that like you know for for like good I think we should go and we should have this opportunity to the US and let's explore so my wife is the reason I'm here and we wife and I like 80 years back we came to the states Buffalo here I know it's like colder place like you we spent five years there and I joined one of the white company that does that and I began to actually speak for like in the beginning they have and I'll spend like 5-5 years with that company but they went in a different direction that I could talk to myself following and I saw that that crafters out there like you know they were born by so many marketing companies and a lot of things are happening every single day and I was like you know I have to do something here I have to go all in and I was building something during the night time so people say right what are you doing 95 like OK that's something you know you you just like uh it's like credited to him and I built that like over to like 3-4 years with the right time I work from 7:00 PM to 2:00 PM and one day I decided to go all in right before formatting February 29 2020 I had no idea what had happened in this COVID time but I like all of it and I started my company like basically I went all the way to serving and electrical contractors you know I have like full control I can fly I can fly to any any client locations spent two days three days with them while bold value do the video shoot photo shoot and people ask me like why I'm traveling and this is this is me we have spent everything back into this relationship by traveling and meeting on time obviously we're all about empathy positivity but obviously that of that research we get the results but we are more about relationship that's all that is a great way to start the service desk right just to have those relationships you start out with us that's how you start out with me by creating that relationship and that's your product with the product you're not just talking the talk you're walking the walk exactly and I and I think I believe that and you you are the best example Joe that I can that I can pick up well thank you so much for that I appreciate that let's get into the results we were here for the content number one we're going to talk about the three mistakes that people make when it comes to their digital marketing obviously the brand of a company is like a personal thing that we're promising to people to get out there and do things in a certain quality way to the marketing kind of is the way they kind of get that funnel going so that people can uh place an order and start like say it's kind of selling the company before the doorbell rings is kind of what you're doing there the branding does that and so it does what you're doing taking extending that brand so people can bring it to life they can actually take action of the brand right so let's talk about the three mistakes that people make with marketing and what you've learned in the concepts of helping to fix those things let's start with mistake number one if you don't mind what's the first mistake that you think that people make with their digital marketing absolutely I think number one mistake is like you know owning your visual access like you know handing over to the companies or marketers that you don't even trust and you let them buy your visual assets like for an example you hire one of the company and tell them that you know this is the domain let's say ABC plumbing and heating.com and marketers like you know other companies are buying it that's that's the first biggest mistake ever you own you own your domain that's your property use and it just requires like 12 bucks 12 bucks to buy it like some good adding or Google domains as there are other domain registrars are available you gotta look at invest in that domain and it takes just like 5 minutes don't let anyone buy your domain and that's the foundation of everything because there are multiple issues and yes there are there are good companies and there are companies which are you know making these contractors hostage when they want to leave and move to another company that's the first mistake I would say you know contractors are taking here yeah because the painful part of that is that I mean the set this whole thing up and obviously you're thinking about moving on to something else and it's like well we own that domain and so that's our that's on our server it's our it's our all that stuff that's all that's all of our property you're just you're just you're just licensing our property if you're doing your name is our name what are you talking about there and that is you know truthfully I've seen uh painful moments on contractors nothing more painful than having somebody hold your name hostage after the hard work I mean these guys are out there front like you're dead grinding it out in that sheet metal shop replicating windows aluminum frames and things like that glass glazing and then somebody takes that from you in a way just because they said the person you're paying right from you on top of it oh it's special kind of a pain that I that that's good advice we gotta get involved with something who owns the digital asset you know getting a graphic for us that's our graphic right not yours right not kind of a thing there right so that's a really good one I think that's I know it sounds obvious but for some of you guys especially great question to ask it's something else in our server right our domain we have ownership of this and that's the big one we should confirm that that is writing that that's yours right you know because you put the money out for it specifically it wasn't something that they did number two biggest mistake that's a good one that's a sharp it's a sharp way to lead off and get a in baseball they call that a sharp single up the middle right you watch baseball on Monday for now not a lot is a cricket yeah cricket is already cricket is a regular cricket is out I'm not sure what they call it the cricket but you hit you hit the paddle hit the ball hard on that one that's a good one there so this is close to baseball so I I always love you know love to get yeah we Americans don't understand it at all so you don't have to you have to you have to set down that I think we'll have to go out for another drink or whatever to try and explain that to me the next one here Mandy #2 what's the what's the second biggest mistake you can say that you see contractors back when it comes to this OK alright so second mistake is like you know not investing into your like you know website like you know that's for backup you're not you know contractors you guys are not here for Microsoft so I get that you want to get started you started your company you have maybe a mix or website or maybe this is page it won't work and because contractors are going hard or they're investing in Google ads make the phone ring or what about like let's say Google as doesn't exist right let's say you know your ad is exhausted you're spending $5000 or $50,000 on like Google ads and if your ad budget is exhausted you know where you won't have your website you're not ranking on Google at all if it doesn't it doesn't make any sense like it's always best to have the foundation like that's what like you know what we do is making sure that you have a nice website that goes with your branding first of all you should have a brand you know dad thoughts about like you know and I called him fantastic because he's he's doing such a great job in the industry so I would highly recommend that investing in a website custom website with all this services that you offer all this service pages service things that you have you should have content for things like services and service pages and it should be a WordPress platform and invest in that like you know as soon as possible like that's for your long term player and I think these I think that's the other biggest see that I see that people rely on body or you know breaks this this these are like you know just like cookie cutter templates investments in a nice like custom website WordPress website and you should you should you should know who is doing this and that can take care of your website and mark so so a templated website where it's like you just fill in the blanks isn't gonna cut it because you're not going to get the exact look you look at where there's certain professional veneer to that just like the brand was created originally by Dan testing let's call it right and then you can tell that there's a lot of work you can thought that answer that brand and every piece of it speaks to the consumer that wow they put thought into this where you can kind of see the generic nature of a templated website redesign picking the blocks and filling things in there that makes sense right right that that makes sense like it's it's definitely website is also an art like you have to make sure that like you know you fill all those gaps like you know what Google is looking at is like the keyboard like if you have like you know service pages content asingle pair acylation and you space heat pumps you name it for plumbing for electric you gotta have don't have those just like ages sitting out there on the website there's no geolocation if you are in Dallas if you're if you're running this company in Dallas you're going to have installation Dallas when you gonna have like you know oh many structures like website design and content plays a big role content is king and queen making sure you have a nice website but overall I think but I don't contact you know they need to focus on having a website that converts like you know you have to make sure you have a mobile friendly website with all call to actions to websites and say like you know who you are do you serve what people are talking about and how to reach these things are there definitely with an option because that was that why you is that why you're so remind me to get to know the contractor more personally to make sure that you can speak because the way you cut the this is like the front door of your company in the way this is like the digital front door right right so so you're trying to get into the know that I'm going to fly somewhere to go visit somewhere so I can understand what I should be communicating on behalf of that contractor that makes sense that's that's OK that's a very good question and I think you're making the point here and the people ask you like why I traveled across the country in meeting our clients and yes that's one of the reasons is definitely to understand their work culture like you know every city and state they have like you know you know the different things are there that no and we so that we spend time and we come back and we went into the monitoring strategies website because when we launched the websites like you know we use like you know the images like iStock images like I don't like iStock images the same guy or like you know the same team so let's say you're in the US and you better have like real pictures of your team on the website I think yes like you have to understand more about their culture what they do with overvalues lot of lot of things that we discussed over the dinner and then next days like media media day with that yes we we gathered a lot of information and obviously the we build that relationship that bond is there like you know you're all about relationships but we come back with media a lot of media media focus and a lot of information and my account managers they go back and they implement on their websites and monitoring campaigns that's that's the reason for that is that's huge because like a lot of people are like with stock image website and it's like you know that's another thing that uh uh that's right the second I do suggest that big information for contractors to it's like what you got a guy with a yellow hard hat that the service guy he's just there's nobody in the service business towards the yellow heart at so I could see that's amateur night when it comes to web developers they put a service guy with the yellow construction hard hat they make what you think this guy is the guy looks like our guy that nobody in our company has got a yellow hard hat out there so I definitely see that as well how about the final thing the third mistake what do you think is the #3 mistake their contract so the third third mistake I would say is looking at biggest opportunity which is there is like videos I think I think that that video strategy videos are like even massive industry for the curious if you guys are going out if you guys are going out for your like you know oh on the jobs you gotta go to start document ID I think a lot of contractors are overthinking and obviously there is a fear of like people and I have I have here too and I just like over overcome like you know by getting comfortable on the camera I said this thing get comfortable being uncomfortable so the video content is powerful I think that's the future of monitoring if you put out the videos of your word and you go out like you know installing air conditioning you gotta record and if you guys are meeting after the job is done just get on a selfie video just have like say a 22nd like selfie video testing model with the customer like hey Joe I wanna give you $50 off on on your invoice if you can give me a video review how powerful is that joke you tell me how you doing this right there's nothing better because you're getting customers playing for you in a way It's exactly they say write a picture is worth 1000 words imagine video is worth million so I I think that is something that estimated that they're utilized the contractors should start doing the videos like you know check out like they're they're all contractors who should doing on social media and they are growing like you know check out the channel champion plumbing Leslie harpold check out there like I'm not saying like you know you have to produce content on TikTok please your word getting video testimonials those are the those are the things I I think under underline I see that that's what it is good I think you do see that online Leslie does a great job with her tik toks and just short little videos I do with your informative yet still entertaining and I think you know I think even myself I have found that the short one minute video of the tik T.O.K videos are great way to kind of tell your story in a short way little bites that gets people to of course I was too believe it or not I was self-conscious like Oh my God I'm going to be out there in this thing I'm feeling terrible I'm gonna sound terrible and it's like you started thinking about like you know what I'm going to do it anyway and then sure enough it just becomes a habit you wind up like if it is a great way to kind of inform people in small bites and kind of speak from the heart in a way to get in front of those fines makes sense it makes totally makes sense look at you are crushing it like you are actually sharing daily messages and I think those are so powerful and it is coming from your heart and it connects really well I watch I watch you watch on Instagram 6 tag you're all over you're doing micro videos I think micro videos that's the future and imagine like having like review on Google like people read it but let's say if any customer comes to your website in our service it is and if you embed that video on the on the pages and people just look at like one video like it's so impactful and it's gonna be game changer I think the better the sooner the better is contractors can start shooting without overthinking you know you'll get comfortable after doing 6-7 or for sure well obviously you didn't get to where you're at right now which is to you're breaking through this industry which you're definitely not in the same kind of prototype that people are used to little bit different prototype so tell us what are some of the things that you feel like the accomplishments that grow nearby has done it tell me are there certain specifical people you want to thank who are clients of yours that have helped you kind of tell that story for you any kind of message any any anybody you can think of that that other contractors could look at and say there's somebody who helped you really kind of prove that grow nearby is probably that it actually works yeah absolutely I'm very thankful for all the clients that you know we work with like you know it's it's just not a number and they are like you know our partners and we started we started with the companies like scratch from mechanical and there are probably smart on heating and cooling Ohio water heaters like I want to pack like clear Danny and Brian people end up so grateful they helped us starting or company that he was starting the company they gave us the chance to just like show what we can do check out the highlight water heater start from that brand or started from scratch so right he had he has very interesting story he owned $10 million company in Iowa and one day he all day and I was about to go all into my business he said that he wants to just sell water heaters is that possible because like why not let's let's give it a shot and let's you know we'll have brand we came up with Ohio order and it's blowing up it's speak what 1/2 years and started from scratch and I'm very grateful for what we have achieved is like you know the foundation has to be strong website content your reviews Google reviews LSA is like well the best programs in the US you could charge for that mean you have your contractors to set so that they are on local service ads Google guaranteed and Google ads Facebook ads all these campaigns we are proud of and obviously we have learned a lot like you know there there were there were so many challenges were there like each and every city and state we see some challenges. Say there are service pages and if you embed that video on the on the pages and people just look at like one video like it's so impactful and it's gonna be game changer I think the better the sooner the better if contractors get start you know shooting without overthinking you know you'll get comfortable with they're doing 6-7 or 10 videos for sure uh well obviously you didn't get to where you're at right now it's just you you're breaking through this industry which you definitely not in the same kind of prototype that people are used to a little bit different prototype so tell us what are some of the things that you do you like the accomplishments that grow nearby has done tell me are there certain specifical people you want to thank who are clients of yours that have helped you kind of tell that story for you any kind of message any anybody you can think of that that other contractors could look at to say there's somebody who helped you really kind of prove that the grow nearby is a company that actually works yeah absolutely I'm very thankful for all the clients that you know we work with like you know it's just not a number and they are like you know our partners and we started we started with the right and then our company smarter oh the final one so Danny Brian oh why people and I'm so grateful to help us our company the tax and just like show although we can't do check out the water from that brand first started from scratch so my phone he has very interesting story he owned the servicing locations which is like $10 million company and one day he called me and I was about to go all into my business he said 19 so word I think it is that possible I was like why not let's go shot and let's see it all built that brand we came up with the Ohio water heaters and it's blowing up it's been 2 1/2 years and started from scratch and I'm I've been grateful for what we have achieved is like the foundation has to be shown website content your reviews Google My Business reviews or NSA is like one of the best programs in the US they don't even charge for that we don't know who contractors to set so that they are on local size we will get it and as Facebook ads all these campaigns we are proud of and obviously we have learned a lot like you know they're bold there were so many challenges were there like you know in each and every city and state we see some challenges but when I'm proud to have like my team without my team yeah we could not have achieved it so it's like you know I always say like your attracts your prime and sometimes young people will listen to my accent they said like did you survive no I said no no no wife your wife your vibe attracts your tribe that's a good one that's about to borrow that one as well that's a great one oh mandeep give us some final thoughts about how people can contact you if they're interested in talking about avoiding those mistakes and doing it right the first time without having to eggs could you give us the way people could contact you absolutely I would I would love to spend 60 to 90 minutes like you know on a strategy session and would love to create and beyond and the best way to get started is www.by.com/schedule and they're all video testimonials out there and there are like you know one minute like form that you know contractors can fill out and sit down together and create road maps and no obligation to go with us so we are here to provide the exact strategy whatever we have seen the challenges and I think we have that strategy I'm hoping to give all that strategy and if you want to implement by yourself absolutely if you want our help yes we are always here deep again it was very nice to see you again as we saw as we met the first time and so one of the hardest parts to meeting you was having to say goodbye but don't say a good podcast starts on time and a great one ends on time so I'm going to say thank you and I appreciate you coming here and we wish you all the best thank you thank you so much.
