Richard Ibekwe is a Nuclear Science and Engineering PhD candidate at MIT working at the Plasma Science and Fusion Center, dedicated to long-term fusion research, focusing on magnet technology. His research involves the development of high-temperature superconducting cables and magnets that are tolerant to dropouts (defects that cause a local drop in critical current density). His research is part of the SPARC project. He graduated from MIT with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Science and Engineering and in Mechanical Engineering.
