Should the workplace always be a positive place? Glossing over negative or difficult experiences sends a message to deep-six instead of exploring them. Let's move past the "I'm fine" culture of toxic positivity and get real with each other.
- Discern between appreciating the growth opportunity of a failure vs. pretending things are OK.
- Negative experiences and emotions need to be tolerated. Moving past them means naming them, finding the root cause and opportunities for change.
- Don't rush to slap a label on what you are going through. Be willing to be vulnerable and explore it.
- Forcing the positive is judging the current situation.
- Give comfort, free of the obligation of advice.
- There is no expiration date on what you are working through. The integrity of the experience is more valuable than the speed of the bounce back.
Stay Inspired,
Angela
