Sermon #560
There are two burdens that we experience apart from Christ. First is the burden of our sin, or the weight of the guilt of sin. The other is for those who depend upon religion to bring them to God. They believe if they follow the rules of man-made religion, they will make it to heaven by their own efforts. Both of these are equally burdensome. But Christ invites us to take up his yoke, because when we do, he bears our burden for us - both the burden of sin past and future, and the burden of man-made religion that insists we follow their impossible standard. Christ invites us into a relationship with God the Father freely, as he himself has paid the price for us.
