Born into poverty without a father in 1928 R Rochdale, UK, Cyril Smith was one of the most recognizable MPs that Britain has ever seen. Tall, overweight, and brash, he was a force of nature in the political arena. A champion of the common man, Smith cast a shadow across Rochdale that is still felt to this day. But there was another side to Cyril Smith; a darker, more predatory side that was talked about in the shadows but never allowed to see the light of day. In this multi-part series, we will be examining Smith’s life, from his earliest days as an underprivileged child to his height as the Party Whip in Parliament.
