It was July 4th, 1954, in the upscale town of Bay Village, Ohio. Dr. Samuel Sheppard was asleep on the daybed downstairs in his home when he was suddenly woken up by the sounds of screaming coming from his bedroom. Dr. Sheppard rushes upstairs to immediately investigate when in the dark he was struck on the head knocking him unconscious. He regains consciousness on the floor just as he sees a person fleeing down the stairs. Dr. Sheppard would explain this individual as a “bushy haired” man. He proceeded to then chase this man down to the beach their house was on where there was a struggle and again Dr. Sheppard is knocked unconscious.
At 5:40 am that morning the Bay Village mayor, who was also the Sheppard family’s neighbor, receives a frantic call from the doctor. Dr. Sheppard would claim that someone had killed his wife, Marilyn.
