In Conversation with Gabby Moore, Yoga Instructor -
Yoga, Nature & Parasympathetic Nervous System
Yoga is an ancient system that offers wisdom, techniques and practices to support physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. From the physical postures (asana) and breathing techniques (pranayama), to guidance on living (yama & niyama) and meditation, the aim of different yoga processes is to help a person achieve harmony and greater understanding of themselves and life.
The parasympathetic nervous system predominates in quiet “rest and digest” conditions while the sympathetic nervous system drives the “fight or flight” response in stressful situations. The main purpose of the PNS is to conserve energy to be used later and to regulate bodily functions like digestion and urination.
When the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) is activated, it slows our heart and breathing rates, lowers blood pressure and promotes digestion. Our body enters a state of relaxation, and this relaxation breeds recovery.
Science has confirmed many health benefits of being exposed to or being "IN" Nature.
"Yoga for me, is an opportunity to give to others. My passion is to pass on the tools for you to drop into the rest and restore part of the nervous system. Allow me to take you on a yogic journey where you will emerge feeling restored and rejuvenated."
Practicing yoga for almost two decades, Gabby knows the joy it brings into your life. Living by the bush in Apollo Bay with her husband and two children, she adores basking in nature. You will find Gabby at the beach having her daily dip, stand up paddle boarding or doing Yoga somewhere.
