"(JULIAN LAXTON BAND BIOGRAPHY)"
"Julian Laxton has been active in the music industry for many years. He went to Rooseveldt High School and then to Damelin College. When Julian was a youngster, the American Country singer Merle Travis would visit South Africa and stayed with the Laxton family inspiring Julian to pick up a guitar. He played in a number of different bands before becoming part of the folk trio Mel, Mel & Julian alongside Mel Green and Mel Miller. From there he would move on to heavier things, becoming a member of bands Freedom’s Children and Hawk. He then formed The Julian Laxton Band releasing their first record ‘Sabre Dance’ in 1972. This was followed in 1976 with the release of the album ‘Celebrate’. Rabbitt’s Trevor Rabin and Neil Cloud would play on the album. The Stockley Sisters would do backing vocals on the song ‘Fooled Around And Fell in Love’. He became very active in the Record Production side of the industry and produced many Hit songs with Artists such as "Rabbit", "Stingray", "Margaret Singana", "Mango Groove", "Stockley Sisters" and "Lucky Dube" to mention but a few. Julian wrote many Radio, T.V. and Cinema commercials and Jingles and has won numerous local and international awards, including 2 Bronze awards in New York and a nomination for "Best International Radio Commercial". He was also the first jingle writer to compose the first totally locally produced Coca Cola commercial in S. Africa which also won a Lurie award. He was also very active in writing film scores for film and TV both locally and internationally. Some of the films include "Shaka Zulu", "Hold My Hand, I'm Dying", "Jewel Of The Gods", "Quiet Thunder", "Panga", "Final Alliance", "Purgatory", "The Evil Below", "Headhunter", "Rising Storm", "Crime Lords" and "Ubejani". "Ubejani" won "The 17 th Annual Breckenridge Festival of Film" for Best Children's Film. The film was used to open the "California Film Festival" and the "Santa Barbara Kids Film Festival". International T.V. Series he has done include 52 episodes of "Okavango", a wild life Sitcom, and 4 seasons of a wildlife documentary called "On The Loose", witch was aired on the Satellite "Travel Channel". He has also produced musical tributes and has performed in such shows as "The Legend of Clapton", "The Legend of Hendrix" and , "True Music Legends" Another project Julian developed was to re-arrange, produce and record children's nursery rhymes and lullaby's into classical format, using classical instruments, as an educational tool for babies, called "Majors For Minors". Julian Laxton sadly passed away on 9 September. A Wake will be held on Saturday 23 September st the Auckland Bowling Club. Julian will always be alive through his Music. "
