Devi verfasste zahllose Romane, Erzählungen und Kurzgeschichten, alle in begalischer Sprache. Devi gilt bis heute als bedeutenste bengalische Schriftstellerin. Daneben war die 1926 in Dhaka geborene Mahasweta Devi eine indienweit bekannte Aktivistin für die Rechte der Adivasi, der indischen Ureinwohner und der Angehörigen der so genannten "non registered tribes." Das Gespräch wurde 2012 aufgezeichnet.
