The five hindrances are different types of dullness, distraction and disturbance that cover and suppress our mind preventing us experiencing clear, beneficial, and peaceful mental states. When we understand how they function as negative mental states and learn the skills and methods to let them go, we can reduce their intensity and eventually abandon them completely and be free from their negative effects.
