Episode 95 The relationship was a contradiction - your very only Alice through the looking glass moment
Being in your body is so very important when you are recovering. The gaslighting that took place convinced you that what you thought was true was a lie and what was a lie was the truth. This is your very own Alice through the looking glass moment. The phrase1 ‘Through the Looking Glass’ can be viewed as a metaphor for any time the world suddenly appears unfamiliar, almost as if things were turned upside down. – similar to looking out from inside the mirror to find a world both recognizable and yet turned inside-out.
Grounding and breathing are very quick ways of stopping the thoughts in their tracks before you lose days and weeks to rumination.
Coming out of these relationships you have more questions than answers and easily slip into rumination which is the process of continuously thinking about the same thoughts, which tend to be sad or dark. Rumination can be dangerous to your mental health, it prolongs your ability to think and process emotions.
By grounding into your body you stay out of your head which helps you process what has happened and what is happening to you. Breathing and counting also help you be in your body whilst balancing the stress hormones and calming down your nervous system.
