In this episode, we embark on a monumental journey, aiming to examine every significant encounter humanity had with God as depicted in the Bible. Over the course of numerous podcasts and episodes, we aim to dive deeper into these events, not to simply read or study them, but to truly experience them and understand their transformative power.
In our role as leaders, we bear the responsibility of guiding others in shaping their relationship with God. It's crucial to perceive worship in a holistic, three-dimensional image, beyond the conventional boundaries of entertainment or education.
Worship can sometimes seem akin to aiming for a bullseye – we strive to create engaging, finely tuned experiences, somewhat like entertainment. While worship can and should be engaging, aiming solely for entertainment risks missing the true essence of worship. Worship can also be mistaken for education as we delve into scriptures to understand God better. Yet, while education is a component of worship, it needn't be the sole focus, lest we end up puffed up with knowledge, but devoid of love.
Worship can stir our emotions, but it is not merely an emotional response. Worship that doesn’t lead to repentance may fall short. Moreover, making evangelism the crux of worship also offers a limited perspective, leading to a possibility of a shallow faith.
It is paramount to understand that the heartbeat of worship is to celebrate Christ. It encompasses the celebration of the deity, the birth, the life, the teachings, the death, the burial, the ascension, the reign, and the return of Jesus Christ. It includes prayer, prophecy, fellowship, and hospitality. Worship is more than entertainment, education, engaging emotions, or evangelism. It is our heartfelt response to God, always starting with repentance and confession, as seen in every revival in history.
