Jill's mother is visiting Detroit for her first Christmas since her husband died. Jill is all ready to be supportive and console her mother through this tough time - until she learns that her mother has begun dating a charming retired engineer, who she's invited to join them for the holidays. As Jill struggles with her feelings about her mother moving on, Tim struggles with a set of stringent new rules for the annual neighborhood holiday decoration contest.
