In the middle of Birmingham Alabama lies a hulking ruin of metal. The remnants of Sloss Furnaces, the only blast furnace in America, a relic of the second industrial revolution. Part of the concentrated boom of industrialization Birmingham, this region became known as the “Magic City” due to its explosion of industry. But the old hearth and stacks hide a sinister secret: the site is reportedly haunted by spirits of long-dead workers. A legion of people who died on the job, falling victim to poor safety regulations and business practices. According to legend, their souls remain trapped in the furnace, and their agonizing deaths have elevated Sloss Furnaces to be one of the most haunted places in the country.
