The Power of the Cross

“He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.” – Colossians 2:14 (NLT)

The cross isn’t just a religious symbol—it’s the ultimate declaration of freedom, forgiveness, and victory. It speaks of a love so powerful that it tore the veil, crushed sin, and opened the door for reconciliation with God.

We see this power vividly in the story of the thief on the cross in Luke 23:39–43. Hanging beside Jesus, guilty and broken, the thief had nothing to offer—no time to serve, no chance to make things right. Yet, in a single moment of surrender, he received grace. Jesus replied, “Today you will be with me in paradise.” That’s the power of the cross—instant redemption for a heart that believes.

It’s easy to carry guilt, shame, or feelings of unworthiness. But the cross reminds us that the debt is paid. The handwriting of accusations against us has been wiped clean. We are no longer defined by our past—we are defined by Christ’s victory.
