1 Samuel 21:10-15
10 And David arose and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.
11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.
14 Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?
15 Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?
Samuel 22:1
1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.
• Courage is applying the resources I have in creative ways when faced when overwhelming odds.
• David had four options:
• They could stay where they were and be killed at the hand of a jealous king.
- That meant certain death.
• They could go to a friendly nation.
• Go into the wilderness and hide in caves.
- That would cause war again though which wasn’t a good option.
• Risking death.
- Going to Gath and trying to gain them as allies.
• David was feeling overwhelmed. Saul had tried to kill him 4 times.
• Have you ever made a mistake and seen God used that mistake for your good?
• David realized that he was going to be killed so he pretended to be a mad man to escape death from the king.
• David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
• It takes courage to step out in faith with God.
• God will help you overcome any odds against you.
• Are you afraid of the “what ifs”?
• The best thing to do when you are faced with the “what ifs” is to let go.
• All things work together for good for those who love God.
