Today is April fools.
We don’t need other people to play tricks on us; our minds do a great job of fooling us all on their own.
Unless you are amazing, you probably engage in magical thinking from time to time.
----more----
It seems to be hard wired into our brain.
We see faces in random patterns because we are designed to see faces.
We ascribe intention to random events, because we have a theory of mind that tells us that when someone acts, they act with intention.
So even when there is no someone, we still assume there is.
There is nothing magical going on; it’s just our brain fooling us.
The hard part of using our brains is s figuring out what is real and what isn’t and when we are mistaken.
Why do Humanists spend so much time on critical thinking?
Because we don’t trust our brains.
And neither should you.
