Have you ever said things you didn’t mean? I’d guess we all have. Ironically, many people save their worst expressions of anger for those they love. Anger explodes in the homes of even the most reasonable people. Persistent quarrels can split families. Unresolved conflicts can also tear people apart inside. You probably know the gnawing pain of tension and bitterness.
We’re in a new series of messages based on Bible verses having to do with relationships. This weekend we’ll dive into James 1:19-21 where we will learn some principles about communication. Due to disappointments and offenses, we all get angry with others. When we feel ourselves getting mad, we are faced with how to respond. Our key verses for this week provide practical advice that will help us to avoid reacting in a way that damages relationships.
At the centerpiece of the passage we find a trio of simple statements: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” We will unpack and apply these ideas as we gather for worship. I hope to see you.
