Join us as Pastor Samuel begins a new bible study series entitled, "Paul's Anguish over Israel: Part 1."
Paul’s Anguish with Israel and God’s promises to Israel
Paul continued to show the church in Rome how God provided justification by His Son Jesus in the Gospel and we see that in chapters 1-4; God will hold a universal court session where He and His Son Jesus will find people guilty of sin or He will justify them by the death of Jesus Christ our LORD and we see that in chapters 5-8. Paul also shares that Gentile believers share in the same blessings as Jewish believers because they all have this wonderful access to the work of God through the Son of God. In chapter 4, Jewish and Gentile believers are children of Abraham. In Chapter 8, Jewish and Gentile believers are heirs of God. Also in chapter 8, Jewish and Gentile believers are destined for glory that is to be with God and LORD Jesus forever. They both have the same Spirit of God living in them.
Paul has a complicated task of explaining to the Jewish believers in Christ that God has not forsaken His promises He made to Israel in the Old Testament. He will use chapters 9-11 quoting Scripture from the Old Testament to justify his claim.
For many Jews of Paul’s day, the Gospel poses a threat to everything that they had been taught about salvation. To them, salvation came through strict adherence to the Law of Moses. Now they are told that they must place their belief in the LORD Jesus Christ for salvation.
