And when it comes right down to it, he says pain and suffering happen because they help us to better understand just how much Jesus loves us.
When you feel rejected, remember how much rejection Jesus suffered in his life and on the cross. When you feel lonely, remember how isolated Jesus felt from everyone else around him. When you feel betrayed, remember Jesus looking straight at Judas and telling him to go and do what must be done.
At any moment, at any second, Jesus could have thrown in the towel, skipped the death and resurrection part, and just ascended straight back to heaven, reclaiming the glory he had set aside and leaving us to fend for ourselves.
But he didn’t. He chose to suffer, knowing that we will suffer. He himself chose to suffer so that he can suffer along with us.
