Romans 12:2 states "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

The word "conformed" in it's original meaning is (suschematizo) to conform one's self (i.e. one's mind and character) to another's pattern, (fashion one's self according to). We are to no longer fashion our mind/thinking/perceptions to that of this world system. We are to be transformed (metamorphoo) which means, the obligation being to undergo a complete change which, under the power of God, will find expression in character and conduct; morphe lays stress on the inward change, schema (see the preceding verb in that verse, suschematizo) lays stress on the outward (see FASHION, No. 3, FORM, No. 2).

The word "Mind" in the Greek is "the mind, comprising alike the faculties of perceiving and understanding and those of feeling, judging, determining the intellectual faculty, the understanding reason in the narrower sense, as the capacity for spiritual truth, the higher powers of the soul, the faculty of perceiving divine things, of recognising goodness and of hating evil the power of considering and judging soberly, calmly and impartially a particular mode of thinking and judging, i.e thoughts, feelings, purposes, desires"

The Holy Spirit will bring about this character change only as we exhibit faith in the Cross of Christ on a daily basis.(Romans 8:1-2). Our part is to yield or present ourselves as vessels in allowing the Holy Spirit to eliminate self, our preconceived thoughts....etc., in order to promote the character of Christ in us. He must increase as I decrease. It doesn't mean that I cease to exist but that my thoughts and perceptions match that of the Bible or Godhead. This is the process of growth which most of us run from in order to do our will/agendas.
