Stricter rules to ensure that medical devices such as breast or hip implants are traceable and comply with EU patient safety requirements were backed by MEPs today. The European Parliament also approved laws to tighten up information and ethical requirements for diagnostic medical devices such as those used for pregnancy or DNA testing. The Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness says the new rules are designed to cope with technological developments and to help detect any potential fraudulent behavior in the production and supply of medical devices.
