The Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy has hit out at the Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes for accusing Sinn Fein MEPs of siding with the far right in a vote today on corporate tax transparency rules. The majority of MEPs voted in favour of new moves to force multinationals based in the EU to publically disclose their tax information on a country by country basis. In a press release Mr Hayes accused the Sinn Fein MEPs of siding with far-right politicians like Marine le Pen’s Front National in France by refusing to back the rules. However, Matt Carthy says the Sinn Fein MEPs abstained from voting because they believe the measures don't go far enough.
