The Estonian Prime Minister this morning presented to the European Parliament the priorities of the incoming Estonian Presidency of the EU council of Ministers. Yesterday MEPs reviewed the work of the outgoing Maltese presidency. During that session, the European Commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker slated MEPs for their poor turnout to hear the Maltese prime minister speak. He said the parliament wasn’t serious and he described it as being “very ridiculous”. The Parliament’s President Antonio Tajani rebuked Mr Juncker for his remarks. The Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness says Mr Juncker went a step too far with his criticisms. However, she argues they are a wake up call for MEPs.
