Filmmaker Feras Fayyad was jailed and tortured in his home country of Syria but that just made him even more sure he had to continue his mission. His documentary Last men in Aleppo got him the Grand Jury prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and earned him 22 other awards. But Feras has mixed feelings about his success. “I got the awards but the war continues.”
In Last men in Aleppo, the director captured the White Helmets – the Syrian volunteers saving people attacked in Aleppo. Feras says that everyone who saw his film is a witness to a war crime. But what can the audience do about it?
