Robert Bradley: A proposal for the government to bail out aging coal and nuclear giants
Robert Bradley CEO AND FOUNDER Institute of Energy Research. A proposal for the government to bail out aging coal and nuclear giants with billions in taxpayer dollars undermines an otherwise banner first year for Trump’s America First Energy Plan.
Energy Secretary Rick Perry says that it is necessary to artificially sustain them to improve the “reliability and resiliency” of the power grid in times of black-outs, high demand and natural disasters. Bradley counters that the superior economics of new energy sources and technologies improve the reliability and resiliency of the grid with each passing day. He adds that subsidies are unnecessary and will distort an otherwise functioning market. In the meantime he suggests vastly less expensive alternatives such as investing in hardening transmission and pipeline infrastructure.
