The criminalization of poverty in America
Professor Peter Edelman is the Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Law and Public Policy at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington DC, and one of our nation's leading authorities on the economics, politics and law behind poverty, welfare and juvenile justice. He was the former legislative assistant to Senator Robert Kennedy up until Bobby's assassination, and went on to be the deputy director of the Robert F Kennedy Center for Human Rights. Prof Edelman was also a member of Bill Clinton's administration and famously resigned in opposition to Clinton's signing of welfare reform legislation. Earlier he was a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Arthur Goldberg, and he received his law degree from Harvard Law School. Peter is author of "Not a Crime to Be Poor: The Criminalization of Poverty in America."
