Ireland’s €30bn export market “under threat” from EU transport rules – Harkin
Ireland’s multi-billion euro export market could be threatened if proposed EU road haulage rules aren’t reformed. That’s according to the Independent MEP Marian Harkin.
She says a vote in the European Parliament this week could scupper attempts to reform proposals to make road haulage rules more workable. On Wednesday MEPs rejected proposed amendments to the “Mobility Package” road haulage draft rules. They referred them back to the European Parliament’s Transport Committee for reconsideration.
The Committee had put forward a number of amendments to the proposed mobility package including updating drivers’ rest time rules, and trying to cut down on red tape requirements.
Here’s Marian Harkin.
