There is such a wealth of truth of about Jesus int his passage. He is the present Jesus, who is among His people when they gather to worship. He is the loving Jesus, who is moved with compassion by the suffering and affliction of His people, and has come to save, heal and deliver. And He is the angry Jesus...wait a minute, angry? That doesn’t fit with our idea of Jesus, who is loving, kind, compassionate, meek and humble.
Yet, in this passage He described as angry, and He got angry in a house of worship, a synagogue, a church, so to speak. What could have provoked such a response from Jesus? As we consider what made Jesus angry among church goers, may we be challenged to evaluate our own hearts.
