Karen Coleman talks to the Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune about the development of self-driving vehicles and the vote in the European Parliament today where MEPs voted for a range of proposals aimed at governing the use of driverless vehicles.
Deirdre Clune, who sits on the European Parliament’s Transport Committee, says something will also have to be done to help retrain truck drivers who’ll lose their jobs because of the growth of autonomous technologies.
According to the European Parliament, driverless vehicles will be on the EU market from twenty twenty (2020). However, there are few rules controlling the way autonomous vehicles can operate in the EU.
