A.W. Tozer believed this is a heresy: Splitting Jesus as Savior from Jesus as Lord. The idea that one can be saved without serious sold-out devotion is a heresy. Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die” The first and last word spoken to Peter by Jesus were, “follow me” (Mark 1:17 and John 21:22). Like Peter, one’s entire life lies between these two calls. What Jesus asks of us in the beginning of our faith we consider easy and cheap grace. What is required of us at the end of life is nothing less than death. Yet, no one accepts this truth at the beginning of the Christian journey. The cross is an unbidden life.
