Episode 4 of Doom Patrol drags us a little deeper into the weirdness. Our intrepid heroes put their search for the Chief on the back burner while they help Willoughby Kipling avert the Apocalypse. Who is Willoughby Kipling? Glad you asked.
He is a member of the Knights Templar. He uses chaos magic to get the job done. He has a history with the Chief which is how he ends up with the Doom Patrol. If Willoughby gives off some Constantine vibes... that is intended. Back when DC tried to keep Vertigo characters separate from their DC characters, Grant Morrison wanted to use Constantine in his Doom Patrol story. DC Comics told him nope. So he did the next best thing and invented a similar character to fit his needs.
We get a little bit more backstory on Larry Trainor/Negative Man. We also see Rita start using her elastic stretchy powers rather than just becoming a gelatinous blob. Another of Crazy Jane’s personalities comes out as well. The episode ends in a cliff-hanger so we will have to wait until next week to see if the Doom Patrol is able to stop the Cult of the Unwritten Book from summoning the Decreator and ending the world as we know it.
How are you liking Doom Patrol so far? Is the weirdness enjoyable or do you find it too over the top? Let us know in the comments.
