A person will read into what you say or do as far as they can, and when they are unclear, they will just start to fill in the blanks with whatever they perceive to be true.

 

1 Be clear with your intent

2 Be clear in what you expect

3 Listen to understand

4 You cannot talk and listen at the same time.

5 Give your full attention

6 Make sure you have their attention

7 Summarize. Give feedback. Let them know you understand

8 Give time for responses

9 Take Action

10 Do not assume that you know every aspect of what the person will tell you.

 

Let them speak. Better communication will always result in more understanding, which leads to deeper relationships.
