As little as 5 years ago car radios were by far the number 1 item on a very common thief’s list of smash and grabs. However these days Latin America is a cell phone thief’s paradise, and practically an industry unto itself. Of course all high end cell phones can be disabled and tracked anywhere once they are stolen but still the theft persists. Where are all those stolen cells ending up?

 

 

#5- In Latin America you are what you drive, and if you don’t have a car (80% don’t), you are judged by your phone model:

For 80% of Latin ladies, a cell phone is their most costly and prized possession. These working girls live at home and don’t have cars or computers so a high end phone on the payment plan is the thing. It stands to reason they would be a much easier target for thieves than a Latino man (who almost always settle for a lesser cell model anyway). That’s why in just the last few years very high numbers of unlucky Latina ladies (though not as many men) have had their ripped off FOUR or more times. Yet even after a Latina lady has one swiped she’ll inevitably buy up, and get the latest, even more stealable, high-end model. Duh?
